Current Reads (or ones I hope to get to soon)

  • Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Believe it or not, I really did buy a 750 page book out of the history section that I plan to read for pleasure.
  • Meditation for Beginners by Jack Kornfield
  • Lipstick Jungle by Candace Bushnell

Miriam and Iris

I recently went back to Chapel Hill, NC to visit Blake, Andie and family. I was scheduled to arrive one day before Iris' due date but the little one decided to come a little early, which created quite a stir!

Some of you may know that Blake has been looking or history professor positions throughout the country for several months now. With very few leads he's been getting a little worried that he might not be able to find a tenure track position for this coming school year. Of course, as soon as they start making back up plans, a position opens up in Forest City, IA and they wanted to fly him out for an interview the week of May 20th. Andie's biggest fear her entire pregnancy was that Iris was going to be born while Blake was out of town interviewing, but with the lack of openings Blake has seen it didn't seem likely that would happen. Plus, this current interview was about two weeks before she was due so they thought it was pretty safe and Blake flew off for his interview.

As you could probably guess, literally an hour or two before Blake's interview was supposed to start, he gets a call from Andie saying that she's on her way to the hospital. With 30 minutes to spare before his interview was going to start, Andie delivered a happy, healthy little baby Iris in North Carolina while Blake was 1400 miles away in Iowa. Needless to say, Blake was very sad he missed Iris' birth, but he also was excited to hear he was being offered the job! They will now be moving to Iowa in July.

Anyways, I still went back to visit a couple weeks ago and had a great time with the little girls. It's definitely easier to fall in love with a baby in person than it is through pictures and webcam. Here are some pictures from my trip!

House

I've been horrible about keeping my blog updated since moving home, but I thought I should definitely post an update being that I just bought a house!!! I'm super excited! It's the first house I looked at and I actually made one offer, a counter offer, got rejected and then had the other person back out of the offer, before mine was finally accepted at my original offer amount. I guess it worked out after all! I am planning to take more pictures of it once I move in, but here are a few to get the idea:
